Grades 1-5 are formally organized in small group clusters based on learning inventory results. Grade K is a classroom/grade level based enrichment program that works to expose students to all learning domains. A teacher following at least two rounds of benchmark assessments may initiate a formal identification process.Īll MSD students are given the opportunity to participate in School Wide Enrichment Partnering activities between homeroom and G&T teachers with data review will help us determine if younger students (before 4th grade) are in need of a more formal tier 2-independent project opportunities. Principals and teachers should use resources provided to determine needs of “strong learners” and for “gifted learners” - these are two different things. PD is and will be provided for G&T and homeroom teachers to ensure that all areas of learning are responsive to student needs (i.e., Morris County Consortium Membership, G&T Conferences) Students may participate in short-term (enrichment, small group STEM experiences) and/or long-term extension projects. According to the New Jersey Strengthening Gifted and Talented Education Act (2019), “instructional adaptation" means an adjustment or modification to instruction enabling a student who is gifted and talented to participate in, benefit from, and demonstrate knowledge and application of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in one or more content areas at the instructional level of the student, not just the student’s grade level. The Morris School District will provide a continuum of services for the exceptional learner, designed to address specific needs and levels of giftedness from Kindergarten through grade 12.
